About

Spanning nearly two decades, this is a triple-decker chronological document of Chuck Berry’s career-making run on Chess Records. All his world-changing early rock hits are here, as are fascinating outliers like the funk-licked 1973 instrumental “Woodpecker” and the six-minute spoken-word odyssey “My Dream.” Even as he was finishing up at the iconic Chicago label, Berry was still improving on what had worked so well for him from the very start; 1970’s hustling, harmonica-swept story-song “Tulane” brings it all full circle.
