About

Handpicked to perform a free concert in New York City’s sprawling Central Park on Sept. 19, 1981—with the proceeds of broadcast, album, and video sales going toward a $3 million park restoration—Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited onstage for the first time since their 1970 breakup. The concert showcases their old hits and solo material, with Garfunkel presenting “A Heart in New York” and Simon bringing eight solo tracks (seven on the album), a cover of The Everly Brothers’ “Wake Up Little Susie,” and Chuck Berry’s “Maybellene” in tandem with “Kodachrome.” The excitement is palpable throughout.
