'The Flag' is the ninth studio album by Rick James. The last one to be released on Motown/Gordy Records. Released on April 18, 1986 by the Motown owned Gordy Records. Produced by Rick himself. The album contains the singles - "Forever And A Day" and "Sweet And Sexy Thing". The album peaked at #95 Billboard 200. This album is likely the odd one out in James entire discography, considered very political by James himself, very tight in the sequence and the theme. Tracks like "Funk In America/Silly Little Men", "Save It For Me" and "Painted Pictures" are proofs of such an argument. The album features 4 skits of sorts, 3 of them being "Freak Flag" (the Intro, Cue and Outro) urging the listener to wave their freak flags and rally around the "Red, Black & Green" and the fourth one is an Interlude - Rick's Raga (aka Om Raga) which supposedly features Rick playing the Indian Tabla (Drum) and Sitar (Stringed instrument). The Expanded Edition of the album contains the 12" Extended Mixes of "Forever And A Day"and "Sweet And Sexy Thing".
