About
Just as the deluxe edition of The Kinks’ second album, Kinda Kinks, shed greater light on the original album and added even more high points, the deluxe edition of The Kinks’ third album, The Kink Kontroversy, goes deep to issue not just the great transitional record but singles, outtakes, live tracks, and BBC performances from the era. The actual album illustrated how The Kinks were holding onto their primal rockers while also growing with songwriter Ray Davies to become a band with a creative future. “Milk Cow Blues” starts things in raging fashion, with “Ring the Bells” immediately showing the band's softer side. Highlights like “Till the End of the Day,” “The World Keeps Going Round,” “I’m on an Island," and “Where Have All the Good Times Gone” are met with top-notch bonus cuts (such as a BBC version of “A Well Respected Man”). “Dedicated Follower of Fashion" and the rebel anthem “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” are played in both their familiar versions and alternate forms (!). Essential.
