About

Vocalist/pianist Norah Jones is the best-known name in this collective of comrades that would regularly play classic country and western swing together. She shares lead vocals with singer/songwriter/guitarist Richard Julian, while electric guitarist Jim Campilongo, double bassist Lee Alexander, and drummer Dan Rieser round out the quintet. Jon Dryden also contributes organ and accordion to this self-titled debut. These friends record on one another’s projects, so there’s an ease apparent early into the opening track, a spirited reading of the Fred Rose–penned outlaw standard “Roly Poly.” Songs by Kris Kristofferson (“Best of All Possible Worlds”), Townes Van Zandt (“No Place to Fall”), and Willie Nelson ("Gotta Get Drunk”) sound right at home among the four originals, including the good-natured “Lou Reed.”
