About
"The New Record by My Bloody Valentine" is the sophmore 1986 EP by shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine. This EP marked a change in the band's style, changing from more post-punk oriented noise rock to C86 jangle pop with waves of noisy feedback. The most notable change, however, is that lead singer David Conway majorly changed his vocal style to fit the tone of the music, moving from influences of Lux Interior and Nick Cave to more nasaly, Jim Reid-like style. The EP was created after Joe Foster left Creation Records to start his own independent record company, Kaleidoscope Sound, and convinced the band to release an EP with him, after Kevin Shields initially considered leaving the band after its slow progress. The EP was a minor success, however, charting well on the UK Indie charts, helping them to develop more of a following around London.
