About

Scan the tracklist of this singles collection, and it’s a shock to realize The Byrds created this stunning output across just three years. They pioneered folk rock with the sublime chiming guitars and honeyed harmonies of “I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better” and hit a psychedelic peak with the trippy jangle of “5D (Fifth Dimension).” They even found time to squeeze in whimsical shuffles (“Mr. Spaceman”) and a sassy two-minute satire of fame (“So You Want to Be a Rock ’N’ Roll Star”).

Sound DNA

  • Rock

This release chronologically compiles the paired A&B sides of the first eight Byrds singles. The initial European vinyl version of this release used the mono single mixes from the original 45s. Both single versions of "All I Really Want To Do" and "Why" are different recordings from their corresponding LP versions and "She Don't Care About Time" is a non-LP track.
Later US CD versions did not use these original single mixes used and instead used other sources, such as the "Younger Than Yesterday" mono LP version of the song "Why". For example see release The Original Singles 1965-1967 Volume 1 (US) (opens in a new tab).
