About
Recorded as her marriage was fracturing, Jill Scott’s third album plays like a tender-nerve confessional—her own version of Marvin Gaye’s similarly preoccupied Here My Dear. On the edgy guitars of “Hate On Me,” she spits pure defiance at those who would break her down, while the stormy cool of “My Love” finds her shocked to discover her love interest has married another woman. But Scott knows how to get raunchy, too, like on the simmering R&B of “Come See Me.”
