Slick Rick’s debut album, <i>The Great Adventures of Slick Rick</i>, introduced him as a nonpareil hip-hop storyteller, and its follow-up expands his swaggering sound even further: Just check out the way his silky flow rides the dizzying drums of the opening “King” and the strutting, scratch-heavy “I Shouldn’t Have Done It.” Elsewhere, the stylishly funky boom-bap joint “It’s A Boy” finds the rapper expressing joy at becoming a father in his uniquely sardonic way.
