India-born artist Jitwam is a graceful handler of what they call vibe: music that doesn’t transact on a word-to-word or note-to-note level so much as move through you like a breeze through trees. Inspired by the soul, funk, and dance music of London and New York (cities whose diasporic richness make them viable reflections of the world in general), <i>Third</i> has the shape and flow of a great mixtape, each track exposing a new facet of the same sunny, slightly spaced-out mood. He’s disco (“Brooklyn Ballers”), he’s salsa-funk (“The Get Down”), he’s Afro-Brazil (“Confidence”). He’s feeling good and down for whatever.
