About
For their fourth album, All Shall Perish continue to bombard listeners with their no-holds-barred sonic assault. Though the Oakland band lean toward pummeling deathcore—witness the bleak lyrics, screeching vocals, and machine gun-like drums of "Divine Illusion"—they incorporate technical metal (the seething "Spineless") and metalcore sludge ("Royalty Into Exile") into their barrage as well. The LP's only real breather comes during "In This Life of Pain," which opens with two-and-a-half minutes of forlorn piano and ice-frosted strings before diving back into the pit.
