Playgroup mastermind Trevor Jackson mines the vaults of producer Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound label for a wild trip through post-punk island funk and digitally distilled tribal dub. The primal polyrhythms of The Missing Brazilians and African Head Charge meet the proto-hip-hop of Tackhead and Fats Comet. And whether it’s Dub Syndicate retooling Jamaican rhythms as “Drilling Equipment” or Mark Stewart’s rants about heat-seeking missiles interspersed with William S. Burroughs samples ("The Wrong Name and the Wrong Number"), these songs show how brazen and electrifying dub's black sheep still sound.
