If Amon Amarth weren't synonymous with Viking metal already, this concept album directly inspired by the epic violence of Norse mythology would be their battle cry. The album is expertly paced between thrashed-out ragers like the heavy-riffing "Where Is Your God?," more dynamic explorations such as "Guardians of Asgaard"—powered by guest vocals from Entombed's Lars Göran Petrov—and the cello-driven evil of "Live for the Kill." The underlying anguish of a bloodied battlefield is ever-present throughout, giving the album a dark emotional subtext.
