G-DRAGON (aka Kwon Ji-yong, or 권지용) is often called the “King of K-Pop” for his massive influence on the industry, both as a member of BIGBANG and as a solo rapper and artist. Debuting as a member of one of K-pop’s most successful groups of all time in 2006, G-DRAGON would go on to become a celebrated songwriter and performer, a fashion icon, and a global symbol of Korea’s music industry. When G-DRAGON made his solo debut in 2009 with <i>Heartbreaker</i>, it became the best-selling album by a Korean soloist at the time. <i>Übermensch</i> is G-DRAGON’s third solo studio album, coming more than a decade after his last full-length album, 2013’s <i>Coup d’Etat</i>. While <i>Übermensch</i> may be G-DRAGON’s solo outing, it begins with “HOME SWEET HOME,” a raucous pop-rock track featuring BIGBANG co-members TAEYANG and DAESUNG and dedicated to the group’s fans. Elsewhere on the album, G-DRAGON taps Anderson.Paak (“TOO BAD”), Nile Rodgers (“TAKE ME”), and LunchMoney Lewis (“GYRO-DROP”) as musical collaborators. Drawing inspiration and its name from the 1883 work <i>Thus Spoke Zarathustra</i> by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, <i>Übermensch</i> is G-DRAGON’s attempt to transcend his previous efforts as a musical artist. It’s a tall order, given G-DRAGON's expansive, pioneering musical work leading up to the release of the 2025 album, though one the Korean artist seems up for in <i>Übermensch</i>. “A limited edition of the second generation, a masterpiece of the century,” G-DRAGON raps in self-assured “POWER.” “Do not waste your time, yeah, it’s gotta be me/Prove ’em all wrong, I’ve got all the receipts.”
