"V: The New Mythology Suite" is the fifth studio album by the American progressive metal band Symphony X, released on 10 October 2000 through Inside Out Music. It is a concept album that explores themes related to Atlantis, ancient Egyptian mythology, and astrology. The album marks the first release to feature the band’s longest-standing line-up, following the addition of bassist Michael Lepond and the return of drummer Jason Rullo. Musically, the album continues Symphony X’s established progressive metal style while incorporating a range of influences from classical music. It includes references and adaptations inspired by works such as Giuseppe Verdi’s "Messa da Requiem", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s "Requiem Mass in D minor", Johann Sebastian Bach’s "Concerto for Harpsichord in D minor, BWV 1052" and "Cantata No. 188", and Béla Bartók’s "Concerto for Orchestra". Material from the band’s previous album, "Twilight in Olympus" (1998), was also developed further for this release. That album did not include a title track, and some unfinished compositions from its recording sessions were later reworked and incorporated into "V: The New Mythology Suite". Elements of these compositions appear in several parts of the album, most notably in the track "Rediscovery (Part II) - The New Mythology". Guitarist Michael Romeo has stated that a significant portion of that track is derived from the song "Twilight in Olympus".
