About
Sarah McLachlan’s 2006 Christmas album weaves together beloved classics (“O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Silent Night”) with twinkling originals and evocative covers. She resurrects her rendition of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Song for a Winter’s Night” to festive effect, complete with feathery croons and lush orchestration, while her take on Joni Mitchell’s “River” combines wistful keys and hymnlike vocals. The title track, meanwhile, is a new, soaring ballad that feels right at home alongside the established Yuletide favorites thanks to delicate piano and McLachlan’s rich vocals.
