<b>Almost two decades in, the UK post-hardcore band return to their roots.</b> Almost two decades into their storied career, Suffolk, England, post-hardcore band Basement are in a rather similar place to where things began in the lead-up to and following the release of their breakthrough debut, <i>I Wish I Could Stay Here</i>. For starters, their 2026 album, <i>WIRED</i>, marks a return to their original label home, Run for Cover, and their first LP in eight years is fueled by a first-thought, best-thought approach that yields a similar energy to their early albums. Take opener <b>“Time Waster,”</b> which jumps with washy hi-hats, snare cracks, and crunching guitars beneath vocalist Andrew Fisher, who seamlessly moves from moody contemplations to soaring yells. Likewise, <b>“Sever”</b> bounces with a post-punk energy, carried by guitar melodies that ping-pong off each other and a bassline that moves in lockstep with the chaotic drum groove. Lyrically, Fisher reflects on “history repeating,” bringing Basement’s exciting tenure back to its roots.
