Mikey Dread made this album around his 1980 sessions with The Clash, and tracks like "Skin Head Skank" sport the same trippy textures that he brought to <i>Sandinista!</i>. Deep dub mixes and distinctive croaking vocals became his trademark, but he's no slouch as a songwriter. He's doomsaying on the title song, spiritual on "Jah Jah Love (In the Morning)," and high-stepping on "The Jumping Master." The reggae-rocker "Break Down the Walls" shows some Clash influence, and he heads into outer space on the dub-heavy "Mental Slavery."
