Biography

American jazz trumpeter, who also played the horn and flugelhorn. Born March 23, 1932, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; died November 17, 2015, Laguna Woods, California, USA.
First active in Detroit, Michigan, working with Johnny Ray, Laverne Baker, Jackie Wilson, Johnny Mathis, as well as jazz singer Billie Holiday, Yusef Lateef and pianist Barry Harris, then joined Count Basie from 1961 to 1972. Then later worked with Quincy Jones and as a studio musician. in Los Angeles. Formed his own group, "The Jazz Caravan," and helped found the "Los Angeles Jazz Society." Retired in 2002.
