Biography

Experimental rock band formed in Framingham, Massachusetts during 1987. Green Magnet School was described as various genres, such as post-hardcore, grunge, industrial, and post-punk. The founding members included Tim Shea on guitar/backing vocals, Craig Duhamel on drums, Can Keskin on guitar/bass, Steve Rzucidlo on bass, and Chris Pearson on lead vocals/guitar. After recording a demo in 1987, The Penguin Tape, Duhamel was replaced by Rob Hamilton on drums. The band eventually signed to Sub Pop and released their debut album in late 1991, Blood Music. After Stephen Smith replaced Rzucidlo on bass and Greg Gilmartin replaced Hamilton on drums, the band released a split single with Six Finger Satellite on Sub Pop, followed by a departure from the label permanently.
The lineup stabilized when Jeff Iwanicki replaced Smith as bassist. The band released two additional albums, Revisionist in 1993 and Illuminatus in 1995, before disbanding in 1997. They reunited for a one-off performance in 2014, which featured the lineup of Pearson, Keskin, Shea, Hamilton, and bassist Mike Davis.
