Biography
American popular big band dance orchestra led by Griff Wiliams.
Williams began the band in 1933. The group developed the "tenor sound", led by the saxopohones and with smooth dance tempos, making the sound overly danceable.
After Williams left to the publishing business in 1953, Bob Kirk, saxophonist/vocalist/manager of the band, led the group as Bob Kirk and the Griff Williams Orchestra and toured until at least 1962. They also recorded at least two albums under The Griff Williams Orchestra (Under the Direction of Bob Kirk) moniker: The Sound Of Griff Williams and Won't You Dance With Me? in 1962.
