Biography
Rotterdam student music group, formed 1982, named after their homestead / society building (Hermes) and often shorthanded as HHB. After recording several albums and singles with self-written repertoire, they switched to covers of 1970s and 1980s party and disco songs. The 1992 album "Thuis" (Dutch for "at home") is a collection of these covers; the album ends with their version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". After being a student favourite for two years, an official single release followed at the end of 1994 and the song became a No. 1 hit in the low countries.
In 1998, "I Will Survive" became a hit in Germany. Because of HHB's "student-only" policy, Judith Ansems (HHB's lead singer back in the days) was no longer part of the band, so a new group was formed for the international affairs; this group was named "HHB International" in the Netherlands and "Hermes House Band" outside the Netherlands. So, there are actually two different bands, both having the name "Hermes House Band".
Over the course of time, more than 100 Rotterdam students had been part of HHB; you can find their names on the Dutch Wiki site.
