Biography

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter of House Music, Latin Pop, and later in her career, Salsa.
Born on March 9, 1969 as Linda Viera Caballero, in Río Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised in the Bronx, New York City, USA. Godchild of Celia Cruz.
Worked as backing vocalist on TKA's track "Come Get My Love (US 1986) (opens in a new tab)" (1986), and with John "Jellybean" Benitez on various tracks including her track "Dancing On The Fire (US 1988) (opens in a new tab)". Married the co-producer of that track Louie Vega in 1990. They divorced in 1996.
Best known for her work with Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez in the mid-1990. From the early 2000's onwards she focussed on Latin music with increasing success. It is then she started using the alias of La India. Her work in Latin music has earned her three Grammy Award and two Latin Grammy Award nominations.
