Biography
Dutch bass player, lyricist, producer and photographer, born in Volendam, the Netherlands, August 22th, 1948. Together with Cees Tol, Evert Woestenburg and Gerrit Woestenburg, Jan co-founded the band BZN in 1965. After a few incarnations, besides Jan and Cees, the band consisted of Cees' brother Thomas Tol, Jan Keizer and Jack Veerman. Shortly after female singer Anny Schilder joined the band in 1976, they had their first number one single 'Mon Amour', the start of a long and succesfull career. Jan and Cees were responsible for all the English songlyrics, Thomas Tol for the compositions, Jan Keizer for the French lyrics. In 1984 Anny Schilder was replaced by Carola Smit, the successtory continued. In 1988 Cees and Thomas left the band, they were replaced by Dirk van der Horst and Dick Plat. Since then Jan Tuijp was responsible for the lyrics together with Jan Keizer and Jack Veerman, with compositions by Keizer, Veerman and Plat.
In 1997 Jan Tuijp, Jan Keizer and Jack Veerman started a five year run of succesfull writing and producing albums for the young star Jan Smit, in the early days Jantje Smit. The three J's had their own production company JJJ Productions and vocal recordings were made at their home studio JJJ Home Studio. Just like with BZN, they were assisted by the expert knowledge of producer Roy Beltman.
Jan's career as a musician ended when BZN played their last concert in Ahoy' Rotterdam on June 16th, 2007.
