Biography
English singer, reportedly the highest-paid female singer of her generation.
Born; 20 October 1938 Ilford, Essex, England.
Died: 19 May 2011 in London, England.
She is best known for her cover version of Doris Day's "Secret Love" and for representing the United Kingdom in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest where she finished in second place. The song landed #4 on the U.K. charts in 1963. She charted four other times in the U.K. and once in the U.S. between 1963 and 1965, with "Dance On" hitting #11 and "Let Me Go, Lover" hitting #10 in 1964, both in the U.K. "Dance On" also topped the single charts in Australia.
In 1963, she won Top British Female Singer in the New Musical Express poll. Her physical appearance often drew comparisons with Marilyn Monroe. Her popularity peaked in the 1960s, when she was one of the best-known and most-recognised personalities in British show business.
