Biography
German bassist, guitarist, singer, producer and composer in the Krautrock era, born in November 20, 1946 in Hohnhorst, Lower Saxony, died October 31, 2025.
He played bass in the Psychedelic Rock band. In 1969, this band broke up and Hess and some bandmates founded the successful band Jane in 1970. Hess became leader of the band during the 1970's and was known for being a strict leader. Many beandmates left the group due to controversies with him. During the years, mainly Werner Nadolny and Peter Panka became opponents for him. After Jane didn't earn a record contract in 1982, the musicians started to play in Jon Symon's project Warlock. But Symon sacked Hess after a short time, which led to a final break between Hess and most of the other Jane musicians. Panka and Hess later both continued with their own Jane, which finally led to a lawsuit and the result, that both artists were no longer allowed to call their band Jane. In the following time, Hess founded Mother Jane in a new line-up of musicians.
