Biography
Madagascan singer, born in 1958 in Vahipeno in southwestern Madagascar, Lala Njava, whose real name is Gabrielle Raharimalala, is the eighth of fifteen siblings. She grew up in a simple family environment, surrounded by music, which has been an integral part of her family for several generations. Following an ancestral tradition, Lala has been singing this precious musical heritage since she was a child. She draws inspiration from the “beko” style of the Antandroy and Mahafaly peoples of southern Madagascar to create her Malagasy blues, sung in a deep voice. She also explores tsapiky (also from the south), the “rija” of the Betsileo people from the southern highlands, tsensigat or Malagasy folk (Afro-folk), as well as Afro-pop and Afro-fusion
