Marvin Holmes is a musician from United States.
Biography
American guitarist, songwriter, producer, and label owner from Oakland, California. Considered to be one of the founding fathers of Oakland funk. Active from the early 1960s until has passing on the 11th January 2022.
Marvin Holmes & The Uptights emerged as the Oakland Bay Area’s hottest soul band in the early 60’s and 70’s. “The Funky Mule, Part 1 & 2 (US 1969) (opens in a new tab)” became a national hit, which led to the group signing. Marvin wrote songs that were recorded by the The Natural Four, Buddy Miles Express and Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm. In 1969, Marvin decided it was time to make a change in his music and formed Marvin Holmes And Justice, as well. He then founded the label. In the 80’s Holmes released It's About Time, re-signed with and recorded "Feel So Good (US 1986) (opens in a new tab)”. Later, he signed with ’ record company,, contributing guitar to albums by rap artist Too Short.
