He first gained recognition in 1988 as part of Marley Marl's "In Control, Vol. 1", where he made his debut with the track "The Symphony". Shortly after, he released his first solo album, Take a Look Around (1990) on Cold Chillin' Records. After a brief hiatus, he returned in 2001 with Disposable Arts, a critically acclaimed concept album. He followed up with A Long Hot Summer (2004), both released under his own label, M3 Macmil Music.
