Biography
American bluegrass, country, blues rock singer/songwriter, guitarist and producer. Born July 14, 1953 in Independence, Missouri. Died September 22, 2023.
In 1981, Henderson he co-founded the blues group, The Bel Airs.
After moving to Nashville in 1985, Henderson became a staff songwriter for EMI on Music Row. His songs have been recorded by Adele, Chris Stapleton, The Dixie Chicks, Kenny Rogers, Daryl Worley, Patty Loveless, Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Gary Allan, Solomon Burke, Marty Stuart, and Randy Travis, among others.
In 1994, Henderson released his debut solo album, "Country Music Made Me Do It", on the RCA label. That same year, Henderson formed a label, Dead Reckoning Records, along with Kevin Welch, Kieran Kane, Harry Stinson, and Tammy Rogers.
In 1996, Henderson formed the blues band, "Mike Henderson & the Bluebloods", and released three albums in the next few years.
In 2001, Henderson toured with Mark Knopfler on his "Sailing to Philadelphia" tour.
In 2006, Henderson and Tammy Rogers co-founded the bluegrass band, "The SteelDrivers".
As a session musician, Henderson recorded with many artists, including the Dixie Chicks, Lucinda Williams, Sting, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Mark Knopfler, John Hiatt, Bo Diddley, Albert King, Tim McGraw, Lucinda Williams, Hank Williams Jr., Faith Hill, Guy Clark, Bob Seger, Patty Loveless, Blake Shelton, Joy Lynn White, Kelly Willis, Martina McBride and Delbert McClinton.
Henderson also co-produced several of John Oates’ blues-based solo efforts, and worked with Dale Watson on the album, "Starvation Box".
