Biography

Reimagining great hits to design soundtracks. Just a boy and his vaporwave lab. Almost everything is plundered. I take some credit but keep in mind nothing here is totally original. https://slowerpace.bandcamp.com/music

The Arc of slowerpace 音楽

The pivots — what forced slowerpace 音楽 to reinvent.

  1. The 'Raining In' Travelogue Surge (2020)

Locked in during the 2020 lockdowns, the project went on a manic release spree anchored by geography-themed beat tapes like Raining in Tokyo and Sunset in Acapulco. Armed with cheap digital DAWs and pitched-down world jazz samples, the music focused heavily on bossa nova grooves and rain-soaked atmospheres. It turned low-effort plunderphonics into a razor-sharp, hyper-focused mood board that churned out tape after tape in mere weeks.

  2. The Barberbeats Dark Turn (2022–2023)

By 2022, the bright Latin lounge flips gave way to a colder, more cinematic edge on releases like APLOMB and dead inside. Aligning heavily with the surging Barberbeats microscene, the production dialed back the breezy street noise and leaned into ominous library synths and trip-hop grooves. You hear the shift instantly in tracks like Barbershop Simulator™, where the mood trades daytime café nostalgia for midnight noir.

Influences

  • Luiz BonfáDirectly covered and sampled via Brazilian standards like 'Manhã de Carnaval' on the 2020 catalog cuts. You hear it in the rhythmic nylon-string guitar picking slowed to a crawl under lo-fi tape saturation. Bonfá’s bossa chord changes provide the entire emotional skeleton of the early releases.
  • DJ ScrewThe Southern tape icon pioneered the chopped-and-screwed pitching technique that defines the entire sonic profile. You hear it in the sluggish, dragging tempos and pitch-dropped basslines that turn uptempo jazz into syrupy sludge. Without Screw’s cassette manipulations in Houston, the entire Barberbeats framework does not exist.
  • James FerraroHis 2011 record Far Side Virtual laid the groundwork for repurposing muzak and corporate lounge into internet plunderphonics. You hear his DNA in the ironic, slick elevator-jazz source samples slowerpace 音楽 repurposes. It is the root blueprint for treating disposable smooth music as high-grade sample fodder.
  • VektroidHer 2011 landmark Floral Shoppe as Macintosh Plus established the process of slowing down 80s funk and smooth pop into aesthetic sound collages. slowerpace 音楽 takes that exact slowdown methodology and updates it for lounge and bossa cuts. The heavy tape-warble treatments directly trace back to her early catalog.
  • Massive AttackTheir 90s Bristol output anchored slow, cinematic breakbeats underneath dubbed-out, melancholic samples. You hear that footprint in the later dark-era tapes like ZODIAK and GUILT, where the drums drop into heavy, downtempo trip-hop territory. It pulls the project out of pure vaporwave and gives it a gritty, late-night pulse.
