Biography

They cut their early tracks in Memphis student housing with the low end cranked through busted interface pres before anybody in town knew their names. Jeffery Jordan and Spencer Stewart split the front mic like they were trading shifts at an oil change, running double-tracked lead vocals dry over gated 80s drum snaps. That first EP was scrappy indie-pop recorded under a shoestring budget, but it carried the kind of hook-forward urgency that Nashville labels hunt down like stray cash. Moving up I-40 to Nashville and signing on the dotted line with Elektra meant getting hooked into the modern radio machine. Producer Jordan Schmidt pulled them in, tightened the gain staging, and pushed their live guitar crunch into shiny, polished arena hooks. When Graham Rowell was out of the band in 2020, they refused to audition new bassists, locked down as a three-piece, and proved they could carry stadium pop without needing extra hands on stage.

The Arc of The Band CAMINO

The pivots — what forced The Band CAMINO to reinvent.

  1. The Memphis Dorm Tape Era

They kicked off in Memphis as college kids cobbling together hooks out of dorms and cheap rehearsal rooms. The independently tracked EP My Thoughts on You hit streaming playlists entirely on word-of-mouth, pairing clean jangle with huge vocal trade-offs between Jordan and Stewart. When Andrew Isbell walked and Garrison Burgess stepped up behind the kit for Heaven, the rhythm section locked into a tighter indie-rock pocket. It was unvarnished guitar pop cut before the industry realized what they were sitting on.

  2. The Schmidt Sessions

Jordan Schmidt took over the production console for their 2021 self-titled debut, dialing up maximum pop punch without completely ditching the loud guitars. Tracks on The Band CAMINO and its heavier 2023 follow-up The Dark played straight to massive festival crowds, trading indie-club intimacy for roaring, radio-ready choruses. Jameson Roper took executive producer duties, steering them into massive rock-pop crossover territory. They rounded out that heavy-touring chapter with the 2024 EP Bruises, bleeding the last drops of distortion out of that production cycle.

  3. The Atlantic Twin-Volume Pivot

Leaving Elektra for Atlantic Records in 2025 marked a deliberate shift into high-output, conceptual double albums. They dropped NeverAlways on Atlantic, leaning away from pure radio chase toward dialed-in arrangements and sharper melodic contours. Before the tour cycle even cooled down, they followed it up with NeverAlways (Vol. 2) in 2026 to complete the twin set. It proved they could survive major-label shifting without losing the vocal interplay that got them noticed in the first place.

Influences

  • The 1975 — Jordan and Stewart have repeatedly cited Matty Healy's outfit as the foundational blueprint for fusing 80s funk-pop guitars with modern synth hooks. You hear it front and center in the sparkling muted guitar lines and slap-back drums across their self-titled album. It is the modern Nashville indie kid's primary textbook.
  • The Killers — Stewart has directly called out Brandon Flowers for teaching him how to write a soaring, arena-sized chorus out of straightforward synth-rock chords. The wall of roaring synthesizers and high-register vocal belts on The Dark are straight out of the Hot Fuss playbook. They play their anthems like stadium lights are already blinding them.
  • Walk the Moon — The band shared live billings early on and cited their infectious, drum-driven dance-rock arrangements as a direct influence on how to get indie crowds moving. You can track those four-on-the-floor synth-pop builds right through tryhard. It taught them to ditch brooding indie slow-burns in favor of immediate hooks.
  • Blink-182 — Jordan grew up obsessed with late-90s pop-punk and explicitly credits Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge for teaching him the power of trading dual lead vocals across a single verse. That deadpan Stewart countermelody set against Jordan's soaring tenor on My Thoughts on You is pop-punk DNA disguised as clean indie-pop. It keeps the tracks from settling into one predictable vocal lane.
  • Coldplay — The band has cited Coldplay's 2000s arena runs for showing them how to arrange simple piano ballads so they still hit the back row of an amphitheater. That spacious, reverberant piano-and-vocal dynamic surfaces across down-tempo cuts throughout their self-titled record. It is big-room melancholy cut for maximum singalong impact.
