The Necessaries is a music group from United States.

Biography
Power pop / new wave band, formed in 1978 in New York City by Ed Tomney. After encouragement from John Cale, he recruited his bandmate Chamberlain from Harry Toledo And The Rockets on drums, former Modern Lovers bassist Brooks and singer Randy Gun. Initially they had Chris Spedding in the line-up, who was later replaced by Arthur Russell. Remarkably, their debut LP Big Sky (1981) was withdrawn after its initial release, because Sire had released as yet unfinished mixes, upon which the band protested.
Line-up:
Ed Tomney: guitars, vocals, songwriter
Randy Gun: guitars, vocals, songwriter (left 1979-11)
Chris Spedding: vocals, lead guitar, keyboards (replaced Randy Gun, left late 1980)
Ernie Brooks: bass
Jesse Chamberlain: drums
Arthur Russell: vocals, keyboards, cello (replaced Chris Spedding, mid-1981).
