Biography

German bassist, composer, engineer and producer, born on Nov. 11, 1948 in Stuttgart.
After singing in a choir in the 1950's, Schmid started his musical career as guitarist and singer for a local Soul band called "The Dynamites" from 1962 to 1970. In 1968, he also became part of the band Seelow & Mayer Formation. The same time, he was educated as recording engineer at Stuttgart-based of Horst Jankowski.
In 1972, he joined the Jazz-Fusion band Passport of Klaus Doldinger. He stayed bassist in the band during the main Krautrock era between 1972 and 1977 and left the band after a fundamental change in line-up. The following year, he joined Head, Heart & Hands as a bassist. In 1981, he started as bandleader of Wolfhound. In 1986, he founded The Kick and in 1996 Paradox together with Billy Cobham.
Aside from being one of the most influential bassist from Germany's Krautrock era, he also started to teach bass from 1990. In 2016, he received a honor professorship at the.
