The Clerk · 5 of 5

Persona, cussing, album takes and memory

The Clerk is one character, but you control how it talks and which write-up you read first. It's all in one place: Kebab (3 dots) > Settings > The Clerk.

Who's working the counter?

Behind the Counter picks The Clerk, the default, or Kat, who is certain, contrarian and usually right. Kat changes how it talks and which records it reaches for, not the facts. Today's spin doesn't change. The new hire starts tomorrow. The car voice stays the house voice for now. Switching restarts the write-ups made for you, so they come back in the new voice.

How much does the Clerk swear?

Your call. Clerk Cussing has three stops: Toned Down, Balanced and Wild. It applies to whoever's working. Balanced is the default.

Where's the Clerk's take on an album?

On an album page the Clerk's write-up is headed The Clerk Says. If there isn't one yet, tap Get the Clerk's take. Default Commentary, in the same Settings section, picks which one opens first: The Clerk, Apple Music or Last.fm. The arrows on the block cycle through the others.

What does the Clerk remember about me?

The Clerk keeps a short file of your tastes, corrections and running jokes, and reads it each time you talk, in chat or in the car. It keeps opinions, not statistics, so it won't remember how many records you own. There's no screen to read or edit it, and it's deleted if you delete your account.

What's free and what's MOSH?

  • Personas, the cussing dial and memory are free.
  • Free accounts get 5 new album takes per quarter. A take that's already written is never charged again. Out of quarters, the block says so and no take is written.
  • MOSH has unlimited takes, and its memory file is read deeper (4,000 characters rather than 1,800).
