Shelf search basics

A big shelf is only useful if you can find things on it. Search, the quick buttons and the sorts all run on the same shelf data, so what you see in Stats and what you get here agree. This guide is the basics. The prefixes (genre:, label:, credit: and the rest) are in the next guide.

How do I search my shelf?

Open the Shelf and type. With no prefix, it looks through title, artist, year, genre, style, mood tags and label names. Every word has to match somewhere, but the words can land in different fields: faith no more king finds Faith No More's King for a Day. Accents and punctuation don't matter, so beyonce finds Beyoncé.

It does not look at credits, studios, barcodes or catalog numbers. For those, use a prefix (next guide) or the Add tab.

Can I combine filters?

Yes. A space between filters means AND, so genre:Jazz mood:melancholic is both. A comma means OR on genre, subgenre, mood, canon, year, decade, era and rated, so genre:Jazz,Blues is either. Quotes keep a value whole: subgenre:"Soul Jazz".

What are the Grails, New, Rated and Spins buttons?

In grid layout, a row under the format tabs has Grails, New, Rated and Spins. Tap one to see only those records. Tap it again to go back.

  • New is your 50 latest adds from the last 30 days.
  • Spins is what you've played in the last 7 days.
  • Rated is the records you've given a Sound rating, highest first.
  • A button only appears when it has something in it.

How do I sort my shelf?

The control to the right of the My Shelf heading shows your current sort. Tap it to open Shelf settings. Under Stack by you get Decade, Alpha, Recent, Genre, Original Release Date and Sound rating in grid layout. Sound rating puts unrated records last. The sort is remembered on that device, not across your devices.
