Biography
Vassílis Tsitsanis was one of the leading Greek songwriters and bouzouki players of his time and one of the founders of modern Rebetika. Born January 18, 1915 in Tríkala, Greece - Died January 18, 1984 in London, England, UK.
In early 1936, Δημήτρης Περδικόπουλος introduced Vassilis Tsitsanis to Μίνως Μάτσας and Σπύρος Περιστέρης, who were impressed by his performing virtuosity. The next day, Tsitsanis entered the studio, initially playing bouzouki on songs by other composers, while a little later, he began recording his own compositions, the first being Σ' Ένα Ντεκέ Σκαρώσαμε (opens in a new tab). Luck brought it about that his last recording, a 1983 live album (opens in a new tab), was released by the label founded by Minos Matsas.
Tsitsanis wrote more than 500 songs.
