Black Tape for a Blue Girl (often stylized as black tape for a blue girl) is an American band formed in 1986 by keyboardist/songwriter Sam Rosenthal, the founder of Projekt Records. The band's fans include director David Lynch, actress Sasha Grey, author Poppy Z. Brite, and paleontologist and author Caitlín R. Kiernan. Their music has elements of dark wave, ethereal, ambient, neoclassical, and dark cabaret music. 1986’s debut The Rope was listed at #169 in Uncut’s Ultimate Record Collection: 200 Greatest Goth Albums.Their 13th album, The Cleft Serpent, was released on October 1, 2021 on Projekt Records.
