French composer and pianist.
Born August 1858 at Château d'Hardelot, near Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Died January 7, 1936.
Her most famous work was the song "Because" published in 1902 with lyrics written by Edward Teschemacher. She charted seven times in the U.S. 1910-1959, all but one of those were covers of "Because", which hit its highest charting in 1914 by Enrico Caruso and in 1948 by Perry Como, both times landing at #4. It had previously charted at #10 in 1910 by Evan Williams and charted again by other artists in 1949, 50, & 51. "One Love, One Heart" by The Four Coins (co-written by Albert Locke & Teddy Powell (as Freddy James)] hit #82 in 1959.
She came to England for the first time at the age of fifteen, returning to Paris to complete her studies. Most of her life, d'Hardelot was engaged in teaching singing and diction at her home in London, and many of her pupils attained success. She lived nearly all of her life abroad.
