American songwriter, arranger, organist, Confederate States soldier, and composer (Boston, Massachusetts, 25 April 1822 - Winter Haven, Florida, 5 August 1893). He wrote many minstrel and military songs, but is best known today for "Jingle Bells", originally published in 1857 under the title "The One Horse Open Sleigh".
