A member of Tha Dogg Pound, rapper Kurupt (a.k.a. Tha Kingpin, Kalhoon and Young Gotti) was born Ricardo Brown in Philadelphia on November 23, 1972. As a teen he was sent to live with his father in Hawthorne, CA, later befriending Snoop Doggy Dogg and signing to Death Row Records. Kurupt appeared on Dr. Dre's 1992 classic "The Chronic" and Snoop's 1993 debut "Doggy Style" before teaming with Daz Dillinger to form Tha Dogg Pound. Debuting in 1995 titled "Dogg Food"; and upon co-founding the ANTRA label, he made his solo debut in 1998 with "Kuruption". Just prior to the release of his 1999 sophomore effort "Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha", Kurupt made headlines when his bodyguard was shot to death in front of the Los Angeles studio where the rapper was recording.
