American songwriter who has written many well-known popular songs and several scores for films, TV and Broadway shows.
Birth: Jan. 20, 1924, Brooklyn, NY, USA.
Death: Nov. 14, 2011, Bridgewater, CT, USA.
He had four #1 songs in the U.S. and one in the U.K. Overall, he had 51 charted singles between 1957 & 1990. His first #1 in the U.S. was "Catch a Falling Star" by Perry Como in 1958 (co-written by Paul Vance) followed by "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" by Brian Hyland (also co-written by Vance & charted to #8 in the U.K.) followed by "Calcutta" in 1960 by Lawrence Welk & His Orchestra (co-written by Vance again, along with Heino Gaze & Hans Bradtke). His last #1he wrote with Lyn Duddy, "Johnny Angel", sung by Shelley Fabares--the song hit #1 in 1962. In the U.K. "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" by Bombalurina hit #1 in 1990.
