American historian, novelist, jazz and country music critic, syndicated columnist, radio disc jockey and occasional record producer. He was hired by Archie Bleyer of as A&R supervisor for its subsidiary, but the new label proved short-lived and only functioned for a short period in 1960 and 1961 in its original incarnation.
