Biography

Born: March 5, 1944
Danish jazz producer and engineer. As a university student, Nils Winther began recording the local and international artists playing in the Copenhagen club "Jazzhus Montmartre." Persuaded by Jackie McLean, he founded SteepleChase in 1972 to release Winther's recent recordings of McLean's Jazzhus performances. From then on, SteepleChase became a label for many artists that had settled in Europe including Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Duke Jordan and Kenny Drew, among others.
