American jazz producer and writer, born March 2, 1923, The Bronx, New York, USA - died March 1, 2015, El Cerrito, California, USA.
Co-founder of Riverside Records (1953) with Bill Grauer, Milestone Records (1966) with Dick Katz and established Landmark Records in 1985. Supervised reissues in his later career, including The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition: The Complete RCA Victor Recordings (1927-1973) (US 1999) (opens in a new tab), a 24 CD box-set. Father of critic Peter Keepnews.
