Biography
Tyrone Mitchell (October 17, 1955 – February 24, 1984) was an American murderer who perpetrated a mass shooting at the school yard of the 49th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles on February 24, 1984. Mitchell killed 10-year-old student Shala Eubanks and 24-year-old passerby Carlos Lopez, also wounding twelve others before committing suicide by gunshot. The shooting led to debate regarding the mental health treatment system of Los Angeles, through which expansions were made to the LAPD Mental Evaluation Unit.
