Import a spreadsheet, CSV or library file
If you keep your records in a spreadsheet, a file import gets them on your shelf in one go. It's for collectors who already have a list. If your records are already in Discogs, connect that instead.
How do I import my collection from a file?
- Kebab (3 dots) > Settings > Sources.
- Tap Import on the File imports row.
- Drop a file in, or tap to pick one. You get a preview of what Gatefold read before anything is added.
What files and columns can I use?
- CSV, TSV, TXT, XLSX, XLS, or an iTunes/Music Library.xml, up to 50 MB. A Word document won't work; save it as CSV first.
- Two columns are enough: Artist and Title. Column order doesn't matter, and columns Gatefold doesn't recognize are ignored.
- A barcode or a Discogs release ID matches exactly. Format, Year and Label are kept on the record but don't change what it matches to.
- Grab the starter sheet. It has a Basic tab (artist and title) and an Ideal tab.
What if I already use Discogs?
- A row for a record you already own, from Discogs or anywhere else, is skipped, so nothing gets added twice. You can import the same file again too; it fills in blanks and doesn't duplicate.
- Rows with no format (a title only) can still collide with a Discogs copy under a slightly different spelling. So if you sync Discogs, connect that first: Sources.
What about live tapes?
- A row is read as a tape when its title carries a date (Grateful Dead 1977-05-08) or a taper's source code (SBD, AUD, MTX). There's no date column to fill in.
- Tapes skip the record matcher and land on the Live tapes tab of your Shelf. The tab shows up once you have one.
- A tape that arrives from a spreadsheet is a plain row. It doesn't automatically get a setlist, lineup, reviews or a playback link. That pass is run by hand for the Grateful Dead and a few other taping-friendly bands.
How do I add one show with its setlist?
Want the setlist, lineup, reviews and playback in the app for a specific show? Add > Type, and paste the archive.org link to the show, including shows from the etree live-music collection on archive.org. That works for any band on the Internet Archive where the tapers allowed audio.
