Grid and Shelf layouts, tabs and rows

The same records can be laid out two ways, and tabs and sorts change what you see in each. This guide is what the Shelf page lets you change. It does not have saved searches or saved views; the way to make a view that stays is to make a shelf.

How do I switch between Grid and Shelf?

Open the Shelf, tap the control beside My Shelf, and go to the View tab. Layout has two choices: Grid and Shelf. On a wide screen the same switch sits in the toolbar.

What's Grid good for?

Every record as a cover in one scrolling grid. Good for browsing everything, and for searching and filtering: the Grails / New / Rated / Spins buttons and all six sorts (Decade, Alpha, Recent, Genre, Original Release Date, Sound rating) work here.

What's the Shelf layout?

Rows of covers that scroll sideways, one row per group. The rows follow your sort, so stacked by Decade you get a row per decade. Above them sit rows for Grails, Spins and Recent Additions, and one row per shelf you made. Good for a lazy browse and for seeing the shape of a collection. It offers four sorts (Decade, Alpha, Recent, Genre) and no quick buttons.

What are the tabs?

A row of tabs under the heading narrows the shelf. You get your formats (All, Vinyl, CD, Cassette), plus Digital and Live tapes when you have any, and a Playlists tab on the end. Playlists swaps the grid for your Clerk playlists. In the View tab, Tabs turns the row on or off, and Tab Source switches it between Format and your Shelves (this appears when you have shelves).

Can I show or hide rows?

Yes, in the same View tab: switches for Grails, Spins and Recent Additions, and one per shelf you made, choose which rows the Shelf layout draws. Tap Save.

Can I make my own shelves?

Yes. Shelves are how you build a view that stays: rooms, moods, a Trade Pile. Shelves has them all, and the how-to is in its own guide: Shelves and the Trade Pile. Discogs folders come in as shelves too.
