Pressings explorer: compare every pressing of an album

The pressings explorer puts an album's pressings on one page, sorted into originals, reissues and audiophile cuts, with Discogs marketplace prices for each. It's for records you don't own yet, so you know which copy to hunt for and what it should cost.

Want a record but not sure which pressing to hunt for?

  1. Put it on your Want list: tap the heart (Want) on any album you don't own.
  2. Open Want. Each card has Buy at (your store) and, on MOSH, a pressings button next to it.
  3. Tap pressings. The explorer opens on that album, with every pressing it has to show on one page.

If Gatefold can't tie the card to a Discogs master release, the button reads discogs instead and opens Discogs.

Can I get there from a recommendation?

Yes. Tap a recommendation to open its sleeve. On MOSH the sleeve has the same pressings button next to Buy. That works on:

  • the Spin page: Albums You Don't Own (But Should) and After This, Listen To…;
  • an album page: the same two rows, under your record;
  • the Clerk's picks in chat;
  • a dimmed record you don't own on an artist page.

View album, in the sleeve's Kebab (3 dots), opens the same page on any account.

What does the explorer show?

  • The album at the top: when it came out, its genre and style, and whether you own it. Want works here too.
  • Pressings, with tabs for All, Vinyl, CD and Cassette, and filter chips by country and by kind of pressing.
  • Originals: original-era pressings, regional firsts, period promos.
  • Reissues: standard reissues after the original window.
  • Audiophile: MoFi, Analogue Productions, UHQR, DCC and the like.
  • Undated: Discogs has no year for these, so Gatefold can't tell an original from a reissue and doesn't guess a label.

A big album can have hundreds of pressings. The page shows up to 25, picked for a spread: the main release, the originals, the audiophile cuts, the first reissues and the newest ones you can buy today. Bootlegs go last. A line says when the filters are working on the pressings shown rather than all of them on Discogs.

How do the prices work?

  • Each pressing shows its Discogs marketplace price and suggested prices by condition.
  • Prices fill in as they load. If some don't arrive, a Some prices missing note has a Try again button, and the prices already loaded are kept.
  • A bootleg says "Bootleg, not sold on Discogs" and never gets a price.

What do I get on free and on MOSH?

  • MOSH: the pressings button on Want cards and recommendations, the whole explorer, and live prices by pressing and condition.
  • Free: View album opens the same page as an album page, with its details, credits, tracklist and Where to buy. The Pressings section is there and says how many pressings are catalogued, but it's locked to MOSH.
