Rate a record
Ratings are how you tell Gatefold which records you love and which pressings sound good. They live on your Shelf, where you can sort and search by Sound rating, and they never change what Spin picks.
Why are there two ratings?
Every record you own has two ratings. Both are free for everyone, and both go in half steps.
- Album is how much you love the record. It's drawn with horns. It stays in Gatefold, and your other copies of the same album share it.
- Sound is how this pressing sounds. It's a ten-step meter from 0.5 to 5. Until you rate it, the meter shows the Discogs average for your pressing in gray. That gray one is theirs. It's never saved as your rating, and it goes away when you set your own.
How do I rate a record?
- Open a record from your Shelf. Under the title there's an Album row and a Sound row.
- Album: tap a horn to set a whole one, or drag to land on a half. Tap the top lit horn again to step down to a half, then off.
- Sound: tap a segment of the meter or drag along it. Each segment is half a point.
- To clear either one, tap the value it already shows.
On Spin of the Day, tap the ratings line on the card, or Kebab (3 dots) > Your ratings. You get both, with a Clear for each.
Can I change the horns?
Yes. Kebab (3 dots) > Settings > Appearance. Pick horns, a flame, a guitar pick, a microphone or a thumbs up.
Do ratings change what Spin picks?
No. A 2 doesn't hide a record and a 5 doesn't push one. Discogs ratings have their own guide: Discogs notes and ratings.
